Software we love

This section includes details of all the useful utilities we come across which we also use regularly & thought we should share with the world.

In no particular order:

• Snagit - This is a screen grab utility which allows you to select a window / region of the screen, and capture it so that you can paste it into a presentation / word document etc.

• K-Lite codec Mega pack - All the codecs you need for playing any video file types - includes codecs for DVD playback.

• NXPowerLite - Powerpoint presentations can get very large when they have many slides which contain the likes of scanned images, digital photographs, or inserted spreadsheets. NXPowerLite compresses presentations by optomising the images for screen and/or print - the result is that the file size of a presentation can be reduced by as much as 90%; making it quicker to open & easier to email.

• Windows Defender - This is a free bit of software from Microsoft which works alongside your regular virus scanner to keep your computer free from the annoying little programs which try to install themselves via web pages (commonly refered to as spyware).

• PDF creator - for converting any documents into PDF.

• Vyatta - The Open Source Router. Onega use the Vyatta router to connect our own networks to Internet.

• IPSentry - A very useful network monitoring utility.

• Yousendit.com - If you are looking for an easy way to send files across the Internet, this web site is for you (and it's free!)

• Clam Antivirus for Windows - a free anti virus scanner for Windows.

• GIMP - The GIMP for Windows is a powerful and free picture editor. It can resize, convert, perform filters and many other functions that your default Windows paint won't do.
